وافى بِوَجْهٍ قَدْ زَهَى بِالطَّلْعَةِ ال
غَرَّاءِradiant فَوْقَabove القَامَةِthe stature الهَيْفَاءِthe slender
غَرَّاءِ فَوْقَ القَامَةِ الهَيْفَاءِ
He came with a face resplendent in the
He came with a face made radiant by the fresh complexion
radiant countenance above a slender form.
Above his slender frame, so graceful and pure.
وَبِمُقْلَةٍand with an eye خَفَقَfluttered الفُؤَادُthe heart وَقَدْand had رَنَتْit gazed
وَبِمُقْلَةٍ خَفَقَ الفُؤَادُ وَقَدْ رَنَتْ
إِنَّindeed الخُفُوقَthe fluttering يكُونُoccurs عَنْfrom سَوْدَاءِa dark eye
إِنَّ الخُفُوقَ يكُونُ عَنْ سَوْدَاءِ
And with an eye whose gaze set the heart aflutter.
With eyelashes that made my heart flutter and tremble -
Indeed, such fluttering comes from a dark eye.
For it seems that passion springs from one with dark eyes.
