He abandoned me through his treachery,

In the scorching heat of his desertion.

Rich in beauty, he showed no pity

For the lover and his poverty.

    A sorrowful lover—his sea

Comes from his mouth and breast.

He came to this: the fortune of his verse

With him was like the color of his hair.

Love for him consumed his patience

When he turned his breast away.

So, in love, he did not move

    His tongue to mention him.

    How can a lover taste

    Sweetness in his patience?

I would ransom him—a bough upon a dune,

    Tender and fresh of stature.

    He sways in colorful attire,

    Smiling, revealing his teeth.

So marvel at the bloom of his flowers,

And marvel at the light of his stars.

    O lovers, beware

Of his treachery and his cunning,

    And his bewitching gaze, since

    You have doubted his intentions.

He wants to drive you out

Of your land with his magic.
