لاَdo not تَعْتَقِدُواthink عِذَارُهُhis cheek-down الفَتَّانthe alluring
لاَ تَعْتَقِدُوا عِذَارُهُ الفَتَّان
قَدْindeed وَشَّحَadorned وَرْدَthe rose الخَدِّof the cheek بالرَّيحانِwith basil
قَدْ وَشَّحَ وَرْدَ الخَدِّ بالرَّيحانِ
Do not think that his alluring cheek-down
Believe not that his alluring excuse
has adorned the rose of his cheek with basil.
Is that the rose in his cheek was painted with sweet basil,
ذَاthis one خَالِقُهُhis Creator قَدْindeed خَطَّtraced فِيupon وَجْنَتِهhis cheek
ذَا خَالِقُهُ قَدْ خَطَّ فِي وَجْنَتِه
لاماًa letter lām كُتِبَتْwas written بِالقَلَمِwith the pen الرَّيْحانيrayḥānī (a calligraphic style)
لاماً كُتِبَتْ بِالقَلَمِ الرَّيْحاني
This one's Creator has traced upon his cheek
Since he whose Creator has painted on his cheek
a lām, written with the rayḥānī pen.
A mole wrote it with a sweet basil pen.
