أَوْحَشْتُمواyou have left desolate نَظَرِيmy gaze فَكَمْand how many مِنْof عَبْرةٍa tear
سَمَحَتْgave freely بِهَاwith it الأَجْفانُthe eyelids والآمَاقُand the inner eye-corners
You have left my gaze desolate—how many a tear
The eyelids and inner eye-corners have freely shed!
لاmay not اِخْضَرَّgrow green بَعدَكُمُafter you العَقيقُal-Aqiq ولاnor حَلَاbecome sweet
مِنْof مَائِهِits water لِلْوارِدينَfor those coming to drink مَذَاقُa taste
May al-Aqiq not grow green in your absence, nor be sweet
The taste of its water to those who come to drink,
حَتّىuntil يَراكُمْsees you ناظِريmy eye وَتَضُمُّناand gathers us
بِكُمُwith you الدِّيارُthe dwellings وَيَسْعَدُand rejoices المُشْتاقُthe yearning lover
Until my eye beholds you, and we are gathered
With you in the dwellings, and the yearning lover rejoices.
لَمْnot أَجْنِI commit ذَنْباًa sin مُذْsince عَرفْتُI came to know هَواكُمُlove for you
فَعلامَso why كَاساتِcups الصُّدودِof rejection أُذَاقُam I made to taste
I have committed no sin since I came to know love for you;
So why am I made to taste the cups of rejection?
