زَارَhe visited وَجُنْحُwhile the wing الظَّلَامِof darkness مُنْسَدِلٌhung down
زَارَ وَجُنْحُ الظَّلَامِ مُنْسَدِلٌ
فَانْشَقَّthen split open ثَوْبُthe robe الدُّجَىof night's darkness عَنِto reveal الفَجْرِthe dawn
فَانْشَقَّ ثَوْبُ الدُّجَى عَنِ الفَجْرِ
He visited while the wing of darkness hung down;
then the robe of night split open to reveal the dawn.
وَبِتُّand I spent the night مِنْfrom صُدْغِهِhis sidelock وَمَبْسَمِهِand his smiling mouth
وَبِتُّ مِنْ صُدْغِهِ وَمَبْسَمِهِ
أَجْمَعُI bring together بَيْنَbetween الحَشِيشِhashish وَالخَمْرِand wine
أَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الحَشِيشِ وَالخَمْرِ
And from his sidelock and his smiling mouth, I spent the night
bringing hashish and wine together.
