كالغُصْنِlike a branch فيin هَيَفٍslenderness والبَدْرِand the full moon فيin شَرفٍloftiness
كالغُصْنِ في هَيَفٍ والبَدْرِ في شَرفٍ
وَالشَّمْسِand the sun فيin صَلَفٍhaughtiness والظَّبْيِand the gazelle فيin كَحَلِdark-rimmed eyes
وَالشَّمْسِ في صَلَفٍ والظَّبْيِ في كَحَلِ
Like a branch in slenderness, and the full moon in loftiness,
And the sun in pride, and the gazelle in kohl-dark eyes.

Soft-voiced, well-proportioned of limb, yet swaying;
Woe is me for that swaying-limbed, well-proportioned one!
