بِمَنْby the one who أَباحَكَallowed you قَتْلِيkilling me
بِمَنْ أَباحَكَ قَتْلِي
عَلامَwhy حَرَّمْتَyou forbade وَصْليunion with me
عَلامَ حَرَّمْتَ وَصْلي
By the one who allowed you to kill me,
By whose permission have you allowed my murder
why have you forbidden union with me?
Why have you forbidden our union
فَكَيْفَso how أَقْوَىI have strength لِهَجْرٍfor estrangement
فَكَيْفَ أَقْوَى لِهَجْرٍ
وَكَيْفَand how أُصْغِيI listen لِعَذْلِto reproach
وَكَيْفَ أُصْغِي لِعَذْلِ
How, then, can I bear estrangement,
So how can I withstand estrangement
and how can I listen to reproach?
And how can I listen to blame
أَنَاI لَكَfor you المُتَمنِّيthe one who yearns

وَغَيْرِيَ المُتَمَلِّي
I am the one who yearns for you,
I am yours, longing
while another enjoys his fill.
While others merely covet

For it is a renewing spring to me

A beard is enough for me and you,
Sufficient for me, and for you, a misfortune
bringing the sundering of my union.
That brings separation from me
