وَبَيْنَand between الخَدِّthe cheek والشَّفَتَيْنِand the two lips خَالٌa mole
وَبَيْنَ الخَدِّ والشَّفَتَيْنِ خَالٌ
كَزُنْجيٍّlike a Black man أَتىcame رَوْضاًa garden صَباحَاin the morning
كَزُنْجيٍّ أَتى رَوْضاً صَباحَا
Between the cheek and the two lips is a mole,
And between the cheek and lips a mole
Like a Black man who came to a garden one morning.
Like an Abyssinian who came to a garden in the morning
تَحيَّرhe grew bewildered فِيin الرِّيَاضِthe gardens فَلَيْسَso he does not يَدْرِيhe knows
تَحيَّر فِي الرِّيَاضِ فَلَيْسَ يَدْرِي
أَيجْنِيwhether he picks الوَرْدَthe roses أَمْor يَجْنِيhe picks الأَقاحَاthe daisies
أَيجْنِي الوَرْدَ أَمْ يَجْنِي الأَقاحَا
He grew bewildered among the gardens, so he does not know
Bewildered among the flowers, not knowing
Whether to pick the roses or to pick the daisies.
Whether to pick the roses or the apples
