كَتَبَwrote الجمالُbeauty بِخَدِّهِupon his cheek نُسَخَاcopies
كَتَبَ الجمالُ بِخَدِّهِ نُسَخَا
بِمُحَقِّقٍin muhaqqaq script حُسْنَthe beauty الوَرَىَof humankind نَسَخَاsuperseded
بِمُحَقِّقٍ حُسْنَ الوَرَىَ نَسَخَا
Beauty wrote copies upon his cheek,
Beauty wrote with his cheek manuscript copies
In muhaqqaq script that superseded the beauty of humankind.
In a calligrapher whose work the world has copied
لَوْif عَايَنَتْهُbeheld him العَابِداتُthe devout women صَبَتْwould fall in love
لَوْ عَايَنَتْهُ العَابِداتُ صَبَتْ
أَوْor باخِلٌa miser صانَguarded اللُّهىthe monetary gifts لَسَخَاwould surely become generous
أَوْ باخِلٌ صانَ اللُّهى لَسَخَا
If devout women beheld him, they would fall in love;
If the nuns saw him they would pour out their passion
Or a miser who guarded his wealth would surely become generous.
Or if a miser, he would give away his treasure out of generosity
