ياO رُبَّmany a نَحْويٍّgrammarian لَهُhe has مَبْسَمٌa smiling mouth
يا رُبَّ نَحْويٍّ لَهُ مَبْسَمٌ
تَقْبِيلُهُkissing it غَايةُthe utmost extent مَطْلَوبِيmy desire
تَقْبِيلُهُ غَايةُ مَطْلَوبِي
Ah, many a grammarian has a smiling mouth;
Kissing it is my utmost desire.
قَدْindeed صُغِّرَhas been diminished الجَوْهَرُthe jewels مِنْby ثَغْرِهِhis mouth
قَدْ صُغِّرَ الجَوْهَرُ مِنْ ثَغْرِهِ
لَكِنَّهُbut it is تَصْغيرُa diminutive تَحْبِيبِendearment
لَكِنَّهُ تَصْغيرُ تَحْبِيبِ
The jewels have been diminished by his mouth,
But this is a diminutive of endearment.
