أُحِبُّI love عَليّاًAli وهوand he is سُؤْليmy desire وَبُغْيتيand my wish
أُحِبُّ عَليّاً وهو سُؤْلي وَبُغْيتي
وَمَاand never زَارhe visited إلّاexcept قُلْتُI said أَهْلاًwelcome ومَرْحَبَاand welcome
وَمَا زَار إلّا قُلْتُ أَهْلاً ومَرْحَبَا
I love Ali, and he is my desire and my wish.
I love Ali, he is my wish and desire
And he never visited without my saying, “Welcome, welcome!”
And whenever he visits, I say "welcome, welcome!"
فَياoh, then لَيْتَif only شِعْرِيmy knowledge عِنْدمَاwhen رَاحَhe went away مُغْرَماًenamored
فَيا لَيْتَ شِعْرِي عِنْدمَا رَاحَ مُغْرَماً
بِقَتْلِيَwith killing me مَغْرىًenticed ظَنَّنَيhe thought me فيهِin that مُرْحِباًMarhab
بِقَتْلِيَ مَغْرىً ظَنَّنَي فيهِ مُرْحِباً
Oh, would that I knew: when he went away enamored
Oh how I wish when he left impassioned
Of killing me, so eager—did he take me for Marhab?
Seeking to kill me, he thought me welcoming
