وَظَبْيٍand a gazelle قَدْindeed سَبَىcaptivated عَقْليmy reason وَلُبِّيand my wits
وَظَبْيٍ قَدْ سَبَى عَقْلي وَلُبِّي
بِكاسَاتِwith cups of المُدَامِwine وَباللَّواحِظْand with sidelong glances
بِكاسَاتِ المُدَامِ وَباللَّواحِظْ
And a gazelle has captivated my reason and my wits,
A gazelle has captivated my mind and heart
with cups of wine and with sidelong glances.
With cups of wine and amorous glances
أَطَعْتُI obeyed العِشْقَpassionate love فيin وَجْدِيmy longing عَلَيْهِfor him
أَطَعْتُ العِشْقَ في وَجْدِي عَلَيْهِ
وَقَلْبِيand my heart قَدْindeed عَصَىdefied فيهِconcerning him المَواعِظْadmonitions
وَقَلْبِي قَدْ عَصَى فيهِ المَواعِظْ
I obeyed love in my longing for him,
I obeyed passion in my ardor for her
and my heart has defied admonitions concerning him.
While my heart disobeyed all advice
