My years have passed over me through time’s long span,

and how often I complained, yet you would not heed my pleas.

O dwellers of Jilliq, sweetly around you drifts

the fragrance of paradises—so bring the lovesick one relief.

The gate of safety is barred to your lover,

and from you must come his rescue from love’s distress.

I petitioned for union with you in the mosque of love,

and rose, hastening through the hours and up the steps.

At the mention of you, the whole world grew fragrant,

for it bears from you a redolent perfume.

You—you—you are my hearing, my sight—

my heart. If you approve what I have said, O my deliverance!
