إنْif شَكَوْناwe complained لَهُto him ظَماناour thirst وَجَدْناwe found
مِنْهُfrom him بِالريِّwith thirst-quenching لِلْحَدِيثِfor conversation ضَمَانَاa pledge
If we complained to him of our thirst, we found
If we complained to him of our thirst, we found
from him, in its quenching, a pledge of conversation.
from him a pledge to quench it with conversation.
ماnot سَباناcaptivated us لِينُsuppleness المَعاطِفthe body's curves مِنْهُof him

Never did the suppleness of his form enthrall us,
His supple curves never captivated us
when he bent, but that a bān tree, too, was swaying.
since he bent, save as he swayed like a bān tree.
