يَوْمَon the day أَتاناcame to us بَرْدُهits cold فيin بُرْدَةٍa cloak
أَضْحَىbecame بِهاthrough it مِثْلَlike الحَديدِiron الماءُthe water
A day came to us, bearing its cold within its cloak;
On the day its cold came to us in a cloak,
through it, the water became like a garden.
Through it, the water became like iron.
والأَرْضُand the earth قَدْindeed بُسِطَتْwas outstretched لِحُسْنِfor the beauty of صَنيعِهits handiwork
بِالثَّلْجِwith snow فيupon الأَرْضِthe earth اليَدُthe hand البَيْضاءُwhite
And Earth, through the beauty of that workmanship, spread
And on the earth, for its fine handiwork, there lay outstretched
across the land a white hand of snow.
A white hand of snow upon the earth.
فاحْضُرso come فَنحْنُfor we كماas تُحِبّyou like بِمَجْلسٍat a gathering
لَوْif لَمْnot تَغِبْyou were absent تَمتْwould be complete بِهِin it السّرّاءُjoy
So come: we are, just as you love, in a gathering
So come, for we are at a gathering just as you like,
whose gladness, were you not absent, would be complete.
Where, were you not absent, joy would be complete.
