يَاO مَنْyou who أَطَالَhave prolonged التَّجَنّيunjust treatment
يَا مَنْ أَطَالَ التَّجَنّي
وَقَدْand indeed أَسَاerred فيin التَّوخِّيpursuing an aim
وَقَدْ أَسَا في التَّوخِّي
O you who have persisted so long in your injustice,
O you who have prolonged your unjust treatment,
and gone astray in what you sought,
and have erred in pursuing your aim,
أَسْرَفْتَyou have gone too far تِيهاًin haughtiness وَعُجْباًand conceit
أَسْرَفْتَ تِيهاً وَعُجْباً
وَكثْرةُand an excess of الشَّدّtightening يُرْخِيloosens
وَكثْرةُ الشَّدّ يُرْخِي
you have gone too far in hauteur and conceit—
You have gone too far in haughtiness and conceit;
too much tightening makes the bond go slack.
and too much tightening makes things slack.
