فَلاso no سِرَّsecret أَنْthat يَحْكِيهit imitates him عِنْدَat سِرَارِهِits dark phase
A beauty whom the full moon imitated at its rising;
The full moon narrated beautifully at its rising,
So it is no secret that it imitates him in its dark phase.
No wonder it narrates beautifully in its orbit.
أَغَرُّfair-browed غِرارُthe blade-edge الجَفْنِof the eyelid مِنْهُfrom him إِذَاwhen سَطاstrikes
جَفاforsakes فيهِbecause of it جَفْنُthe eyelid الصبِّof the lovesick lover طيبُthe sweetness غِرارِهِof its brief sleep
Fair-browed—when the blade of his eyelid strikes,
More beguiling is the wetness of the eyelid when it pours forth,
Because of it, sweet, brief sleep forsakes the lover's eyelid.
When the eyelid of morning rain pours forth its beautiful wetness.
أَبيتُI pass the night وَلِيand I have جَفْنٌan eyelid غَريقٌdrowned بِمَائِهِin its water
عَلَيْهِover him وَلِيand I have قَلْبٌa heart حَريقٌconsumed بِنَارِهِby its fire
I pass the night with an eyelid drowned in its own water,
I spent the night with a tearful eyelid in its water,
Over him, and with a heart consumed by its own fire.
And a heart aflame in its fire was mine.
I would give my life for مُؤذِّناًa muezzin تَصْبوyearns إِليهِtoward him
بِجَامِعِin the congregational mosque of جِلَّقٍJillaq مِنَّاof ours النُّفُوسُthe souls
I would give my life for a muezzin, longed for
I would sacrifice a muezzin it inclines toward,
By our souls in Jillaq's congregational mosque.
In Diljaq mosque souls incline toward him.
يَطيرُflies النِّسْرُthe Eagle مِنْout of شَوْقٍlonging إِليهِtoward him
وَتَهْوَىand longs أَنْto تُعَانِقَهُembrace him العَرُوسُthe Bride
The Eagle flies toward him out of longing,
The eagles fly toward it out of yearning,
And the Bride longs to embrace him.
And the bride desires to embrace him.
