لَعِبْتُI played بالشَّطْرَنْجِat chess مَعwith شَادنٍa young gazelle
لَعِبْتُ بالشَّطْرَنْجِ مَع شَادنٍ
رَشاقَةُthe grace of الأَغْصَانِthe branches مِنْfrom قَدّهِhis figure
رَشاقَةُ الأَغْصَانِ مِنْ قَدّهِ
I played chess with a young gazelle;
I played chess with a slender, willowy one,
The branches draw their grace from his figure.
The supple branches were from his waist,
أَحُلُّI untie عَقْدَthe knot of البَنْدِthe sash مِنْfrom خَصْرهِhis waist
أَحُلُّ عَقْدَ البَنْدِ مِنْ خَصْرهِ
وَأَلثُمُand I kiss الشّاماتِthe beauty marks مِنْfrom خَدّهِhis cheek
وَأَلثُمُ الشّاماتِ مِنْ خَدّهِ
I untie the sash's knot at his waist,
I untie the knot of his belt from his hips,
And kiss the beauty marks on his cheek.
And I kiss the moles on his cheek.
