أَيَجْمُلُIs it fitting? سُلْوانِيmy forgetting إِذَاwhen هَجرَforsakes الحِبُّthe beloved
أَيَجْمُلُ سُلْوانِي إِذَا هَجرَ الحِبُّ
أَمِor الصَّبْرُpatience أَوْلَىmore fitting بِيfor me إِذَاwhen وَلَّهdrives to distraction الحُبُّlove
أَمِ الصَّبْرُ أَوْلَى بِي إِذَا وَلَّه الحُبُّ
Is it fitting for me to forget when the beloved forsakes me?
Does my beauty still hold when love has gone away?
Or is patience more fitting for me when love drives me to distraction?
Or is patience better for me when love has turned astray?
