أَأَحْبَابَناO our beloveds إِنّيindeed I وإِنْand though رُمْتُI sought سَلْوةًforgetfulness

O our beloveds, though I have sought forgetfulness,
My loved ones, though I have sought solace
and your cruelty has given me an excuse for it,
And found in your tyranny my excuse,
لَعِنْدِيsurely I have الْتِفَاتٌa turning نَحْوَكُمْtoward you وتَشوُّقٌand yearning
إِلَيْكُمْfor you وَمِنْكُمْand from you بَعْدُstill فيin القَلْبَthe heart آثارُtraces
I do still turn toward you and yearn
I still yearn for you and bear the traces
for you; traces of you still linger in my heart.
Of you within my heart, and cannot lose.
