حَبَاكَ الجَمالُ وَأَوْفَى النَّصِيبَا

حَبَاكَ الجَمالُ وَأَوْفَى النَّصِيبَا

فَصِرْتَ إِلى كُلّ قَلْبٍ حَبِيبَا

فَصِرْتَ إِلى كُلّ قَلْبٍ حَبِيبَا

Beauty endowed you and gave you your share in full;

Beauty has gifted you, fulfilling your share

so you became beloved to every heart.

So you became every heart's beloved

وَرَدَّ جَلالُكَ عَنْكَ العُيُونَ

وَرَدَّ جَلالُكَ عَنْكَ العُيُونَ

فَكُنْتَ الحَبِيبَ وَكُنْتَ الرَّقِيبا

فَكُنْتَ الحَبِيبَ وَكُنْتَ الرَّقِيبا

And your majesty turned eyes away from you;

Your glory distracts eyes away from you

so you were the beloved, and you were the watcher.

Thus you were the beloved and the vigilant

مَنعْتَ دُمُوعِيَ أَنْ لا تَصُوبَ

مَنعْتَ دُمُوعِيَ أَنْ لا تَصُوبَ

وَأَسْهُمَ عَيْنَيكَ أَنْ لا تُصِيبا

وَأَسْهُمَ عَيْنَيكَ أَنْ لا تُصِيبا

You forbade my tears to remain unshed,

You prevented my tears from missing

and the arrows of your eyes to miss their mark.

And your eyes' arrows from striking

وَأَقْسَمْتَ أَنْ لا يَراكَ امْرُؤٌ

وَأَقْسَمْتَ أَنْ لا يَراكَ امْرُؤٌ

سِوَى نَظْرَةٍ ثُمَّ يَدْعُو الطَّبِيبَا

سِوَى نَظْرَةٍ ثُمَّ يَدْعُو الطَّبِيبَا

And you swore that no one would behold you

You swore none shall see you

for a single glance without then calling a physician.

Save a glance before calling the doctor

وَحُسْنُكَ أَقْبَلَ فِي جَحْفَلٍ

وَحُسْنُكَ أَقْبَلَ فِي جَحْفَلٍ

فَلِمْ فِيكَ أَضْحَى فَريداً غَريباً

فَلِمْ فِيكَ أَضْحَى فَريداً غَريباً

And your beauty came forth in a mighty host;

Your beauty approached in throngs

then why, in you, has it become a solitary stranger?

Why then in you became solitary and strange?

حَبيبَ القُلوبِ أَذَبْتَ العُيونَ

حَبيبَ القُلوبِ أَذَبْتَ العُيونَ

حَبِيبَ الفُؤادِ أَذبْتَ القُلوبَا

حَبِيبَ الفُؤادِ أَذبْتَ القُلوبَا

O beloved of hearts, you melted eyes;

Beloved of hearts, you wasted the eyes

O beloved of the heart, you melted hearts.

Beloved of souls, you wasted the hearts

أَيا كَعْبةَ الحُسْنِ إِنّي جَعلْتُ

أَيا كَعْبةَ الحُسْنِ إِنّي جَعلْتُ

عَلى سَلْوَةِ الحُبِّ مِنّي صَليبَا

عَلى سَلْوَةِ الحُبِّ مِنّي صَليبَا

O Kaaba of beauty, I have placed

O shrine of beauty, I made

a cross of my own over solace from love.

Of love's firmness a cross from me

أَجابَتْ فَلَمْ تَلْقَ مِنّي نِدا

أَجابَتْ فَلَمْ تَلْقَ مِنّي نِدا

ونَادَتْ فَلَمْ تَلْقَ مِنّي مُجِيبَا

ونَادَتْ فَلَمْ تَلْقَ مِنّي مُجِيبَا

She answered, but found no call from me;

It answered yet found no peer from me

and she called, but found in me no one to answer.

It called yet found no respondent from me
