لَكَ النَعماءُ وَالخَطَرُ الجَليلُ

لَكَ النَعماءُ وَالخَطَرُ الجَليلُ

وَمِنكَ الرِفدُ وَالنَيلُ الجَزيلُ

وَمِنكَ الرِفدُ وَالنَيلُ الجَزيلُ

Yours are bounty and exalted stature,

You possess bounty and lofty peril,

And from you come aid and abundant gifts.

From you comes ample sustenance and plentiful Nile.

أَمَرتَ بِأَن أُقيمَ عَلى اِنتِظارٍ

أَمَرتَ بِأَن أُقيمَ عَلى اِنتِظارٍ

لِرايِكَ إِنَّهُ الرَأيُ الأَصيلُ

لِرايِكَ إِنَّهُ الرَأيُ الأَصيلُ

You commanded me to remain waiting

You commanded me to wait attentively,

for your judgment; indeed, it is sound judgment.

For your view is the authentic view.

وَراقَبتُ الرَسولَ وَقُلتُ يَأتي

وَراقَبتُ الرَسولَ وَقُلتُ يَأتي

بِتِبيانٍ فَما جاءَ الرَسولُ

بِتِبيانٍ فَما جاءَ الرَسولُ

And I watched for the messenger and said, "He will come

I observed the messenger and said he will come

with clarification"—but the messenger did not come.

With exposition, but no messenger came.

فَلَيسَ بِغَيرِ أَمرِكَ لي مُقامٌ

فَلَيسَ بِغَيرِ أَمرِكَ لي مُقامٌ

وَلا عَن غَيرِ رَأيِكَ لي رَحيلُ

وَلا عَن غَيرِ رَأيِكَ لي رَحيلُ

So I cannot stay except at your command,

For me there is no staying without your command,

nor depart except in accordance with your judgment.

Nor leaving without your opinion.

وَقَد أَوقَفتُ عَزمي وَالمَطايا

وَقَد أَوقَفتُ عَزمي وَالمَطايا

فَقُل شَيئاً لَأَفعَلَ ما تَقولُ

فَقُل شَيئاً لَأَفعَلَ ما تَقولُ

And I have held back my resolve and the mounts;

I have halted my resolve and the steeds,

So say something, that I may do what you say.

So say something, I will do what you say.
