إِلَيكَ حَتّى قامَ بِرذَوني
You promised a riding horse, then kept sending me back
You promised me a horse, then made me keep returning
To you, until my own riding horse gave out.
To you, until my own horse gave out.

It was polished smooth in every part; whenever
And its flanks were sleek; whenever
You saw it, its rare color was a wonder—
You saw it, its color was extraordinary.

A pearl, with laughter gleaming from its every side,
A pearl whose sides smiled,
Beautiful both in everyday use and in safekeeping.
Lovely in everyday use and in safekeeping.

You held out hope of the black one to me, after
You held out hopes of the black horse after
You had bereft me of the deep-hued gray.
You had bereft me of the white-gray one.
إِنif تَكذِبِyou break الميعادَthe promise تَظلِمyou do wrong وَإِنand if

If you break your promised word, you wrong me; and if
If you break your promise, you wrong me; and if
You keep it—a riding horse for a riding horse!
You keep it, then it is a horse for a horse.
