نَعَيتَyou announced the death of الكِلابَthe dogs بِأَسمائِهاby their names
نَعَيتَ الكِلابَ بِأَسمائِها
إِلَيناto us وَلَمand did not تَنعَannounce the death of فيهاamong them أَباكاyour father
إِلَينا وَلَم تَنعَ فيها أَباكا
You announced the dogs’ deaths by their names
You mourned the dogs by name
To us, yet did not announce your father’s among them.
To us, yet you did not mourn your father in them
فَقَدfor indeed كانَhe was أَنذَلَهاthe basest of them طِعمَةًin feeding
فَقَد كانَ أَنذَلَها طِعمَةً
وَأَهوَنَهاand the least significant of them حينَwhen ماتَتthey died هَلاكاin death
وَأَهوَنَها حينَ ماتَت هَلاكا
For he was the basest of them in his feeding,
For he was the most ignoble prey to them
And, when they died, his death mattered least.
And the least grieved for when he perished, ruined
