مَنwhoever كانَwas فيin الدُنياthe world لَهُhe has شارَةٌsplendor
مَن كانَ في الدُنيا لَهُ شارَةٌ
فَنَحنُand we مِنamong نَظّارَةِspectators of الدُنياthe world
فَنَحنُ مِن نَظّارَةِ الدُنيا
Whoever has splendor in this world—
Whoever in this life has a glory,
we are among the world's spectators.
We are from the window of this life,
نَرمُقُهاwe gaze at it مِنfrom كَثَبٍclose by حَسرَةًin sorrow
نَرمُقُها مِن كَثَبٍ حَسرَةً
كَأَنَّناas though we were لَفظٌa word بِلاwithout مَعنىmeaning
كَأَنَّنا لَفظٌ بِلا مَعنى
We gaze at it from close by, in sorrow,
We gaze upon it with envy and sorrow,
as though we were a word without meaning.
As if we are words devoid of any meaning.
