أَبطَلَ الدَمعُ حُجَّةَ الكِتمانِ

أَبطَلَ الدَمعُ حُجَّةَ الكِتمانِ

وَإِستَراحَ الكَرى مِنَ الأَجفانِ

وَإِستَراحَ الكَرى مِنَ الأَجفانِ

Tears nullified concealment's claim.

Tears have invalidated concealment's argument

And slumber found respite from the eyelids.

And instead the eyes found rest from sleeplessness.

فَإِذا هَمَّ بِالرُجوعِ إِلَيها

فَإِذا هَمَّ بِالرُجوعِ إِلَيها

خاصَمَتهُ وَساوِسُ الأَحزانِ

خاصَمَتهُ وَساوِسُ الأَحزانِ

So whenever it intended to return to them,

Yet when the heart considers returning to it,

The whispers of sorrow contended with it.

Sorrows rebuke and disquiet him intensely.
