She smiles, revealing bright teeth with fine serrations,
He smiles with a bright grin
and gazes from languid eyes, their black set against white.
And looks with a listless gaze

And she sways like a branch of the arak tree,
And sways gently like a bough
brushed by the waft of a chilly wind.
When a breeze stirs its waist

Of that which dispels the patience of the forbearing
are beauty of figure and languor of gaze.
Is the grace of figure and the languor of glance

When old age reproached me

Stars of gray hair clung to youth,
Stars of white hair clung to my youth
and reduced its once-abundant beauty.
Dimming its beauty however abundant

love's blackness in the whiteness of hair.
The blackness of passion in the whiteness of hair

And what did she want from my pilgrim-clad beloved
trailing, late at night, the excess folds of their waist-wraps?
As they dragged the skirts of their izārs

We climbed willfully to throw pebbles

bringing benefit at evening and harm at morning.

on the day merits are weighed, rank below the blaze-fronted.
The day of preference is without confusion
