ياO مَوعِداًtryst مِنهاfrom her تَرَقَّبتُهُI awaited it
يا مَوعِداً مِنها تَرَقَّبتُهُ
وَالصُبحُand dawn فيماin what lies بَينَناbetween us مُسفِرُshining bright
وَالصُبحُ فيما بَينَنا مُسفِرُ
O tryst with her that I awaited,
O you whom I await expectantly
while dawn shone bright between us.
While the dawn parts us
هَمَّتshe set her heart بِناon us حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen أَقبَلَتshe approached
هَمَّت بِنا حَتّى إِذا أَقبَلَت
نَمَّtold tales عَلَيهاon her المِسكُthe musk وَالعَنبَرُand the ambergris
نَمَّ عَلَيها المِسكُ وَالعَنبَرُ
She set her heart on us; when at last she approached,
She turned to us until when she came near
musk and ambergris gave her away.
Musk and ambergris slept upon her
ياO مُزنَةًraincloud يَحتَثُّهاurges it onward بارِقٌa lightning flash
يا مُزنَةً يَحتَثُّها بارِقٌ
وَرَوضَةًand a meadow أَنوارُهاits blossoms تَزهَرُbloom
وَرَوضَةً أَنوارُها تَزهَرُ
O raincloud urged onward by lightning,
O you who is stroked by lightning
and a meadow whose blossoms bloom!
And a garden whose lights blossom
ماnot أَنصَفَwas fair العاذِلُthe reproacher فيconcerning حُبِّكُمlove for you
ما أَنصَفَ العاذِلُ في حُبِّكُم
بِمِثلِكُمwith one like you مَنwhoever يُبتَلىis afflicted يُعذَرُis excused
بِمِثلِكُم مَن يُبتَلى يُعذَرُ
The reproacher was unfair about loving you;
The blamer was not just in blaming your love
whoever is smitten with one like you is excused.
The afflicted by the likes of you is excused
