O son of Isa ibn Farrukhan—and the Persians

take pride in Isa ibn Farrukhan.

We have stopped at the monastery of Qunna, and we seek no

    hospitality except wine.

So pour, from where Kisra used to drink,

for a company, all parched and burning with thirst,

a dark-red wine, for which the sun has done

what fire has done for other wines.

So it is wine, though one is misled about it

by a newly coined name borrowed for it.

And you must give abundantly, for it is the way

of one rich in virtues to give abundantly.
