Never did Ghatafan gain such honor
How successful were the Ghatafans in Ukrumah
As it did through the proud lords, the house of Najah.
With their hunting, O clan of Najah!

They inherited writing, horsemanship and argument
From every fair-faced, radiant man among them,
From every bright ancestor among them, every Waddah!

With the breasts of pens which transmit to them
The affairs of the caliphate—or with spear-points.
The affairs of the Caliphate or the breasts of spears!
