Neither the rain pouring down its showers,
The rain pours not but where the lightning guides,
nor the lion guarding his cubs' thicket,
Nor do lions protect their cubs but with might.

is like al-Mustaʿin, whose aid is sought, for whom
Like the assisted, the assistant whose fortune
blessing was perfected through his generosity;
Was perfected by the Bestower’s grace.

follower of God's Messenger in his way,
Follow the Messenger of God in his guidance,
and son of the radiant stars of his household;
And the bright star of the Zahras from his kin.

he whose beneficence makes the world beautiful,
One who makes life good by his good,
and whose graciousness makes time fair,
And time beautiful by his beauty.

Who protects the realm by his care,

Over its corners and horizons.

Woe to Ibn al-Khasib! How he sallied forth
For the son of Khosayb, woe unto him! How he transgressed
with his ruinous lies and his falsehood!
With his dispelled falsehood and nullity!

He plotted against God's trustee, against his person,
He almost undermined the trustee of God,
and against his retainers and his wealth.
In himself, his partisans, and his wealth.

بِغِشِّهِthrough his deceit فيهِwithin it وَإِدغالِهِand his treachery
And he sought in the realm what he sought,
And coveted the dominion which he coveted
through his deceit within it and his treachery.
Through his deceit therein and trespassing.

غَيَّرَتِchanged النِعمَةَblessing مِنfrom حالِهِhis condition
So God sent down retribution upon him
So God unleashed upon him a vengeance
that stripped his condition of blessing.
That changed the blessing of his state.

And transgression drove him to a fall
And ambition led him to a downfall
into doom, which had not crossed his mind.
The like of which had not occurred to him.

He was dealt with as he had dealt, and back to him came
He tasted the consequence of his way,
the evils of his deeds, upon his own person.
And the evils of his deeds recoiled upon himself.

And he hoped for harm to another,
He wished others ill, so the ill of his hopes
so the harm he hoped for befell him.
Befell him in turn.

He had angered God by exalting the
He angered God by esteeming
world, and pleased it through his own humiliation.
The world, and pleasing it through humiliation.

So the people's joy at his fall
So the people’s joy at his demise
matches the anger they once felt at his rise.
Matches their rage at his advent.

Yesterday they yearned for him to be killed,
Yesterday they yearned to kill him,
and hoped his end would be swiftly hastened.
And awaited the quickening of his ruin.

O defender of the faith, be about to gain victory
on the plotter against the faith and its assassin.
Over the sinister and crafty enemies of religion.

For the blood and wealth of the wicked are licit
you look into the hidden side of his affairs.
If you consider the essence of their affair.

He sought what he sought, and wove what
He who plots and kindles ruin
he wove of his ruinous deeds.
Through his pernicious acts.

And sound judgment—all sound judgment—lies in killing him
The soundest view is to slay him
with the sword and confiscating his wealth.
With the sword and confiscate his money.
