جَفاناhe shunned us الكُمَيتِيُّal-Kumayti الكَبيرُthe elder وَلَمand did not يَكُنbe
جَفانا الكُمَيتِيُّ الكَبيرُ وَلَم يَكُن
لَناfor us فيin الكُمَيتِيِّal-Kumayti الصَغيرِthe younger شَفيعُan intercessor
لَنا في الكُمَيتِيِّ الصَغيرِ شَفيعُ
The elder al-Kumayti shunned us, and there was no
intercessor for us in the younger al-Kumayti.
وَماand not مَتَّعاناthe two let us enjoy فيduring المُقامِthe stay بِأُنسِهِwith its fellowship
وَما مَتَّعانا في المُقامِ بِأُنسِهِ
وَقَدthough already عَلِماthe two knew أَنَّthat الفِراقَparting سَريعُsoon to come
وَقَد عَلِما أَنَّ الفِراقَ سَريعُ
Nor did the two let us enjoy the fellowship of our stay,
though both already knew that parting would soon come.
مَتىwhen يَصِلاناwill the two keep ties with us وَالدِيارُwhile the dwellings شَتيتَةٌare scattered
مَتى يَصِلانا وَالدِيارُ شَتيتَةٌ
إِذاif قَطَعاناthe two cut us off وَالدِيارُwhile the dwellings جَميعُare together
إِذا قَطَعانا وَالدِيارُ جَميعُ
When will they keep ties with us, our dwellings scattered,
if they cut us off while our dwellings are together?
