أَجرِbring up حَديثيmention of me وَكُنand be لَهُto him فَطِناًattentive
مُستَخرِجاًseeking to discover هَلwhether تَراهُyou see him غَضباناangry
Bring up my name, and be attentive to him,
seeking to discover whether he seems angry.
وَإِحفَظand remember عَلَيهِwith regard to him الحَديثَthe words مُكتَتِماًkeeping them secret
ثُمَّthen أَعِدهُrepeat it عَلَيَّto me إِعلاناopenly
And remember his words, keeping them secret,
then repeat them openly to me.
أَبصَرتُهُI saw him فيin المَنامِthe dream مُعتَذِراًapologizing
إِلَيَّto me مِمّاfor what أَتاهُhe had done it يَقظاناawake
I saw him in a dream, apologizing
to me for what he had done while awake.
وَلانَand he softened حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen هَمَمتُI intended to act بِهِtoward him
أَيقَظَنيhe woke me ياسِرٌYasir فَلاso may ... not كاناhe have existed
And he softened, until, just as I was about to approach him,
Yasir woke me—may he never have existed!
