ماnot أَتىdid عِنديin my eyes اِبنُson of طاهِرِTahir شَيئاًanything
مِثلَlike حَطّيlowering me إِلىto اِرتِجاءِhoping for نَوالِكyour bounty
In my eyes, nothing Ibn Tahir has done
compares with lowering me to hope for your bounty.
وَعَزيزٌand grievous عَلَيَّto me أَنthat أَنزَلَتنيbrought me down
مَثُلاتُafflictions الدُنياthe world إِلىto أَمثالِكthe likes of you
And it grieves me that I have been brought low
by the world's afflictions to the likes of you,
وَاِمتِداحيand my praising إِيّاكَyou حَتّىuntil كَأَنّيas though I
لَمnot أَكُنI was أَعلَمَthe most knowledgeable الجَميعِof all بِحالِكabout your character
and that I praise you, till it is as though I
did not know your character better than anyone.
وَإِذاand when الكَلبُthe dog قاءَvomited جاءَcame بِمِثلَيwith two like
عَمِّكَyour paternal uncle التافِهِworthless القَليلِpaltry وَخالِكand your maternal uncle
And when a dog vomits, it brings up a pair like
your worthless, paltry paternal uncle and your maternal uncle.
