يَضحَكُhe laughs مِمّاat what بيafflicts me وَأَستَرجِعُand I say, 'To God we belong and return'
O you who turn away, who are called but do not hear,
You laugh at my plight, while I say, 'To God we belong and to Him we return.'
هَبنيgrant that I تَصَبَّرتُI endured patiently عَلىin the face of ماwhat أَرىI see
أَماdoes ... not? يَرىsee اللَهُGod الَّذيwhat تَصنَعُyou do
Suppose I have patiently borne what I see—
Does God not see what you do?
وَجهُكَyour face قَدindeed حَرَّمَhas forbidden هِجرانَهُforsaking it
وَلِلأَمانيand for longings فيهِin it مُستَمتَعُa source of delight
Your face has made forsaking it forbidden,
And in it, longings find their delight.
لايَطرِفُdoes not glance الطَرفُthe eye إِلىtoward غَيرِهِanything other than it
فيin حُسنِهِits beauty مِنin place of غَيرِهِanything other than it مُقنِعُsufficiency
The eye turns toward nothing else;
Its beauty suffices, leaving no need for any other.
