أَباO Abu (father of) الفَتحِal-Fath (victory) قَدindeed وَجَّهتُI have sent روحيmy soul وَمُهجَتيand my lifeblood
إِلَيكَto you وَجِسميand my body وَحدَهُby itself مُتَخَلِّفُremaining behind
Abu al-Fath, I have sent my soul and my lifeblood
to you, while my body alone remains behind.
وَفيكَand in you بِحَمدِwith praise to اللَهِGod مابَلَغَwhat attains الغِنىprosperity
وَآمَنَand grants security ماwhat أَخشىI fear وَماand what أَتَخَوَّفُI dread
And in you, praise be to God, lies the means to prosperity
and security against what I fear and dread.
وَأَكثَرُand most of مايُهديwhat he offers خَفِيّاًsecretly مُسَتَّراًconcealed
كَثيرُabundant التَجَنّيunjust blame وَالتَعَتُّبِand reproach مُسرِفُexcessive
And most of what he offers, hidden and veiled,
is an excess of unjust blame and reproach.
فَعُجso turn aside بِوِدادٍwith affection حَسبَin keeping with ماwhat كُنتُI was واثِقاًconfident
وَلاand do not تَكُbe وَقّافاًhesitant كَمَنlike one who لَيسَis not يُعرَفُknown
So turn to me with affection, as I trusted you would,
and do not hold back like someone unknown.
