أَقولُI say لِجاهِلُكُمto your fool إِذnow that مَلَكَhe has gained power
وَدارَand turned لَهُfor him بِالسُعودِwith good fortune الفَلَكthe heavens
I say to your fool, now that he has gained power,
and the heavens have turned auspiciously for him,
وَخَنَّثَand made effeminate لَهجَتَهُhis speech مُسمِعاًmaking others hear
بِلَفظٍwith an utterance تُحَلُّare untied عَلَيهِat it التَكَكthe trouser-strings
and he has made his speech effeminate, uttering aloud
words at which trouser-strings are untied:
تَماسَكRestrain yourself عَنِfrom الخُنثِeffeminacy لاno أُمَّmother لَكfor you
وَلاand do not تَهلِكَنever perish فيهِthrough it مَعwith مَنthose who هَلَكperished
“Restrain yourself from effeminacy—may you have no mother!
And do not perish through it with those who have perished.

For a young man has a respite
that affords him an excuse, so long as he has not... [final verb incomplete].”
