أُسارِقُها خَوفَ المُراقِبِ لَحظَةً
وَأوحيand I convey بِطَرفيwith my gaze ماwhat أُلاقيI endure مِنَof الوَجدِpassionate longing
وَأوحي بِطَرفي ما أُلاقي مِنَ الوَجدِ
I steal a glance at her, for fear of the watcher,
I steal a glance at her, fearing the watcher,
and with the corner of my eye tell her what I suffer from longing.
and with my gaze convey the longing I endure.

Her heart understands it from the corner of my eye;
Her heart understands it from the glance of my eye;
then with the corner of her eye she signals, “I remain true to our pledge,”
then with a glance she conveys: 'I remain true to the pledge,
وَأَنّاand that we بِحَمدِwith praise to اللَهِGod لَمdid not نَأتِwe commit ريبَةًan improper deed
وَأَنّا بِحَمدِ اللَهِ لَم نَأتِ ريبَةً

and that, praise be to God, we have done nothing to arouse suspicion,
and, praise be to God, we have done nothing improper,
and that we both, from love’s inward fire, are in sore distress.
and we both are in distress from love's burning ache.'
