I have been denied success, plainly denied,

and my oppressor kept putting me off, time after time.

And now there stands in the way of my right

the basest of your judges in lineage and faith.

He will be content with daughters when he sees him—

a discerning man who had been seeking sons.

I find my hundred impossible to obtain,

though by right I should have been given hundreds.

And the worst of my affliction is that I find no one

to help me against the harm of the man withholding it.

O Abu Hasan—there is purity of soul,

and forefathers, you stern foe of traitors—

when will you bestow favors out of generosity,

if you will not dispense justice among us?
