قَدindeed قُلتُI said لَاِبنِto Ibn (son of) أَبيAbi (father of) الشَوارِبِal-Shawarib (the mustaches) مُشفِقاًconcerned
قَد قُلتُ لَاِبنِ أَبي الشَوارِبِ مُشفِقاً
مِنof أَنthat يَرىmight see فيهِin him العَدُوُّthe enemy غَميزَهa flaw
مِن أَن يَرى فيهِ العَدُوُّ غَميزَه
I said to Ibn Abi al-Shawarib, out of concern,

It grieved me that, passing him over, you embraced one

who draws close to you in preference to Abu Kishniza.

وَهوَand he المَشومُill-omened صَداقَةًin friendship وَالمُدَّعيand a pretender
وَهوَ المَشومُ صَداقَةً وَالمُدَّعي
مَخسوسَbase أَصلٍlineage وَالضَعيفُand weak نَحيزَهdisposition
مَخسوسَ أَصلٍ وَالضَعيفُ نَحيزَه
He is seasoned in friendship, whereas the pretender is

لَكَ صاحِبٌ مِن أَهلِ تِلكَ الجيزَه
