وَإِنand even if كَرِهَdisliked العِبادُthe servants بِماaccording to what أَحَبّاHe desired
God is exalted, who recompenses every man—
Exalted is God, who settles every matter,
though mankind may disapprove—with what he loved.
As He pleases, even if His servants dislike it.
بَراHe created سوقاًcommoners وَأَملاكاًand kings عَلَيهِمover them

وَقَدَّرَand ordained مِنهُمُamong them عَبداًa slave وَرَبّاand a master
He fashioned commoners, and kings above them,
He created commoners and kings over them,
and ordained among them slave and master.
And ordained among them a slave and a master.
وَفَضَّلَand favored فيin الكِتابَةِscribal work آلَthe family of وَهبٍWahb

In the scribal art He favored the House of Wahb,
And favored the family of Wahb in scribal work,
and set Wahb foremost among them—for farting.
And gave Wahb precedence among them for his farting.
أَكَبَّhe bent over عَلىover الوَزيرِthe vizier يُريدُhe wishes قَولاًspeech
فَأَرسَلَthen he released ضَرطَةًa fart لَمّاwhen أَكَبّاhe bent over
He leaned toward the vizier, intending to speak,
He bent over the vizier, wishing to speak,
then let loose a fart as he bent down.
Then let out a fart when he bent over.
فَياso, oh لَكِto you ضَرطَةًa fart حَلَّتsettled مَكاناًa place

Ah, what a fart! It landed in quite a place,
Oh, what a fart you were, settling in such a place!
and its story spread through East and West.
And word of it traveled east and west.
