كَأَنَّكَas though you are السَيفُthe sword حَدّاهُits two edges وَرَونَقُهُand its sheen
كَأَنَّكَ السَيفُ حَدّاهُ وَرَونَقُهُ
وَالغَيثُand the rain وابِلُهُits downpour الدانيclose at hand وَرَيِّقُهُand its first showers
وَالغَيثُ وابِلُهُ الداني وَرَيِّقُهُ
You are like the sword—its two edges and its sheen,
And rain—its downpour close at hand and its first showers.
هَلِare ...? المَكارِمُnoble deeds إِلّاexcept ماwhat تُجَمِّعُهُyou gather it

Are noble deeds anything but what you gather,
Or gifts anything but what you scatter?

To renew, and inherited wealth you keep wearing out.

Until he is lovesick, and from anguish that keeps him awake.

Toward you in the east by his longing.

With one of languid glance and speech, who came in
Fear, while the eyes of the people watched him.

As though within the folds of her Yemeni cloak there moved
An ishil-tree bough, its leafy growth swaying.

Of a favor from her love that will be granted you.
