Chanting verse in the plaintive voice of thunder,

Trailing her train, true to her promise,

Pouring out tears, though not from longing.

Her breeze is like the breeze of roses,

And her peal like the roar of lions,

And her lightning flashes like the swords of India.

The east wind brought her from Najd,

Then she scattered like a necklace coming apart.

So the earth enjoyed a life of plenty,

In a mantle embroidered with the blossoms of the hills.

As though her pools in the hollows

Were playing dice with their bubbles.
