كِلاناboth of us مُظهِرٌshowing لِلناسِto the people بُغضاًhatred
كِلانا مُظهِرٌ لِلناسِ بُغضاً
وَكُلٌand each عِندَwith صاحِبِهِhis companion مَكينُfirmly established
وَكُلٌ عِندَ صاحِبِهِ مَكينُ
Both of us makes a show of hatred before the people,
Both of us display hatred before the people,
yet each holds a cherished place with the other.
Yet each holds a secure place with the other.
وَأَسرارُand the secrets المَلاحِظِof glances لَيسَare not تَخفىhidden
وَأَسرارُ المَلاحِظِ لَيسَ تَخفى
وَقَدand may تُغريentice بِذيtoward the possessor of اللَحظِthe glance الجُفونُthe eyelids
وَقَد تُغري بِذي اللَحظِ الجُفونُ
The secrets carried in glances cannot remain concealed;
The secrets of glances are not hidden,
eyelids may betray the one who casts the glance.
And eyelids may entice others toward the gazer.
وَكَيفَand how يَفوتُescape هَذاthis الناسَthe people شَيءٌanything
وَكَيفَ يَفوتُ هَذا الناسَ شَيءٌ
وَماand what فيin القَلبِthe heart تُظهِرُهُreveal it العُيونُthe eyes
وَما في القَلبِ تُظهِرُهُ العُيونُ
And how could any of this escape people’s notice,
And how can anything escape these people,
when the eyes reveal what lies within the heart?
While eyes reveal what is in the heart?
