My soul, burning and distraught for her whom it has lost,
The soul, at losing her, is burning and distraught,
is neither in the grave nor living among humankind.
Neither in the graves nor alive among humankind.

God made my love wholly hers, and fashioned her
God made my love pure for her, then fashioned her
a beauty before whom the moon’s halo falls short.
A beauty whom the moon's halo cannot match.
