لاdo not تُمازِحjest فيin غَيرِother than وَقتِthe time of مُزاحِjesting
لا تُمازِح في غَيرِ وَقتِ مُزاحِ
وَاِتَّخِذand take آلَةًan implement لِوَقتِfor the time of الصَياحِshouting
وَاِتَّخِذ آلَةً لِوَقتِ الصَياحِ
Do not jest when it is not the time for jesting;
Do not jest when it is not the time for jesting.
and take up a means for the hour of outcry.
And keep an implement ready for the hour of shouting.
لَناwe have صاحِبٌa companion ظالِمٌunjust ماnot يَزاceases (word continues in the next line)
لَنا صاحِبٌ ظالِمٌ ما يَزا
لُcompletion of the preceding word, 'ceases' حَرَّبَwaged war on الناسَthe people غَيرُwithout وَقعِthe clash of السِلاحِweapons
لُ حَرَّبَ الناسَ غَيرُ وَقعِ السِلاحِ
We have an unjust companion who never—
We have an unjust companion who never ceases
ceases to be warred against by the people, without the clash of arms.
To wage war on people without the clash of weapons.
