وَكانَand was البُعدُdistance عَنfrom مُلَحٍMulah
وَكانَ البُعدُ عَن مُلَحٍ
عَدُوَّthe enemy of الصَبرِpatience وَالجَلَدِand fortitude
عَدُوَّ الصَبرِ وَالجَلَدِ
And distance from Mulah was
Distance from a beloved
the enemy of patience and fortitude.
is the enemy of patience and composure
أَتوبُI repent إِلَيكِto you (feminine) مِنof بَينٍparting
أَتوبُ إِلَيكِ مِن بَينٍ
سِوىother than هَذاthis وَمِنand of بُعُدِdistance
سِوى هَذا وَمِن بُعُدِ
I repent to you of parting
I repent to you from in-between
other than this, and of distance.
Nothing else but this and from afar
فَإِنfor if غَنِيَتflourished لَناfor us دارٌa home
فَإِن غَنِيَت لَنا دارٌ
بِجَمعِthrough gathering الشَملِthe company لَمnot أَعُدِI do so again
بِجَمعِ الشَملِ لَم أَعُدِ
For if a home flourishes for us
If a house were to sing for us
through reunion, I shall not part again.
With gathering together I would not return
