It is Saturday, and we have enough for a freeborn man,
A Saturday, and we have enough to free a monk,
And food, and roses close at hand.
Food and roses are close at hand.

And we have a spacious gathering-place beside the river,
We have a gathering by the river, so come!
Roomy, where hearts find rest.
A spacious, comforting place for hearts.

And continual drinking of wine draws you near to the one
The flowing wine brings you close to her
You loved, even if the beloved has shunned you.
You love, even if the beloved was cold.

So come to us, Muhammad ibn Yazid
In secret, so the watcher does not see you.
In secret, so the watcher cannot see.

Let us drive away care by drinking three morning cups,
We banish cares with a morning drink,
Brimming full, through which sorrows are dispelled.
Three drafts that drive away sorrows.

Indeed, in wine there is relief from love's burning anguish,
In comfort there’s respite from love’s fever,
And my heart thrills with longing for the man of letters.
And my heart turns fondly to the poet.

Do not let my gray hair alarm you, for
Grey hair won’t stop me from you,
Gray hair has not turned me from [youthful dalliance].
Grey hair never turned me from carousing mates.
