أَظَلومُO Zalum حانَthe time has come إِلىto القُبورِthe graves ذَهابيmy going
وَبَليتُand I have wasted away قَبلَbefore المَوتِdeath فيin أَثوابيmy clothes
O Zalum, the time has come for me to go to the graves;
The time of my going to the graves has come
And I have wasted away in my clothes before death.
And I am decayed before death in my clothes
فَعَلَيكِso upon you ياسَكَنيO my solace السَلامُpeace فَإِنَّنيfor I
عَمّاafter قَليلٍa short while فَاِعلَمِنَّso know for certain لِماbecause of what بيails me
So peace be upon you, O my solace, for I
So upon you my dwelling peace, for I
Will soon—know this—die of what ails me.
Will shortly be gone, know this for why
جَرَّعتِنيyou made me swallow غُصَصَchoking pangs المَنِيَّةِdeath بِالهَوىthrough love
فَمَتىso when تَرَينَكِdo you see yourself تَرحَمينَshowing mercy to شَبابيmy youth
You have made me swallow death's choking pangs through love;
You made me drink the cups of death with love
When, then, do you think you will show mercy to my youth?
When will I see you show mercy for my youth
سُبحانَglory be to مَنthe One who لَوif شاءَHe willed ساوىmade equal بَينَناbetween us
فَأَدالَand granted victory مِنكِover you فَقَدfor indeed أَطَلتِyou have prolonged عَذابيmy torment
Glory be to Him who, had He willed, would have made us equal
Glory to Him who, if He willed, made us equal
And let me prevail over you, for you have prolonged my torment.
But was unjust to me, so you prolonged my torment
