My glance has indeed hastened me into love for you,
My eyes hastened me with love for you
as though my eye desired none but you.
As if they wanted nothing but you

وَلَم يَكُ عِندي قَبلَ ذاكَ كَذاكا
My messenger came to me, the light of his face shining,
My messenger came to me with a radiant face
and he had not been like that with me before.
Never before had he come to me thus

بَقايا جِمالٍ مِنكَ حينَ أَتاكا
He came to you ugly of face, and you clothed him
He came to you ugly faced, so you covered him
in remnants of beauty from you when he came to you.
With remnants of beauty when he came to you

When you are absent from me, it suffices me to see
It suffices me when you are absent from me
my messenger, for the sight of you has spoken to him.
To see my messenger, that your vision spoke to him
